Policy on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in scientific research

Introduction

In light of the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and the emergence of tools to assist in writing, editing, and data analysis, Al-Zaytuna University is committed to clarifying ethical and scientific standards for the use of these tools to ensure academic integrity and the quality of published scientific content. This policy has been developed based on internationally recognized best practices adopted by leading academic publishers such as Elsevier, Springer, Nature, and Wiley, and in accordance with the requirements of international databases and indexing systems such as Scopus and Web of Science.

 

First: General Principles

  • AI tools are prohibited from being considered authors or co-authors of research and may not be listed among the authors.

  • The use of any AI tool in drafting or editing the research content must be disclosed in a separate section before the references list entitled: Declaration of Use of AI Tools.

  • Authors bear full responsibility for the accuracy and reliability of the content resulting from the use of these tools.

 

Second: Permissible Uses of AI Tools

  • Type of Use: Acceptable, Disclosure Required

  • Proofreading and Grammar: Permitted, Disclosure Not Required

  • Paraphrasing or Reorganizing: Permitted, Disclosure and Listing of Tools Used Are Preferred

  • Assistance in Generating Initial Ideas: Acceptable, Disclosure and Listing of Tools Used Are Required

  • Assistance in Writing the Theoretical Review or Introduction: Acceptable, Disclosure and Listing of Tools Used Are Required

  • Machine Translation with Human Review: Acceptable, Disclosure Not Required

  • Assistance with Programming and Software Development: Acceptable, Disclosure and Listing of Tools Used Are Required

 

Third: Prohibited Uses of AI Tools

Fifth: Procedures

  • The editorial board reserves the right to reject or re-evaluate any research that demonstrates the undisclosed use of artificial intelligence tools.

  • Authors may be asked to provide further clarification on how the aforementioned tools were used.

  • The use of artificial intelligence tools by reviewers or editors is prohibited in the review process to ensure integrity and objectivity.
